flowers friday: holiday arrangements with Abigail Spencer and county line florals

When I think of a well lived home, I think of a home filled with beautiful flowers - bouquets sent from loved ones, bouquets bought just because, flowers picked fresh from the garden, peonies losing their petals in a pile on the dining table. A well lived home and flowers just kind of go together, so I want to celebrate all things flowers with a weekly (or bi-weekly, or even monthly, depending on how often I get to it) Flowers Friday post. And this first post is dedicated (as I’m sure many will be in the future) to my ongoing collaboration with my dear friend and creative soul sister Abigail Spencer, and her merry band of floral pranksters at County Line Florals. So without further ado…

Our conversations always start with “I have an idea!” I met Abigail Spencer in 2015 - and we can’t remember if we first met at Sundance when I photographed her at a photo studio I set up there, or if we first met when I photographed her Studio City house - they were right around the same time, and sometimes life on set blends together. Regardless of where we first met, it was one of those moments of instant friendship - realizing how many things we had in common, our styles, our tastes, or love for New Mexico and kiva fireplaces and adobe architecture and hats and textiles and flowers…how naturally we seemed to work together and how easy it always felt. When we first met, I don’t think either of us could have imagined that we would wind up collaborating on creating together in such a beautifully seamless way - a magic spark that feels like all the stars align and we don’t even have to speak, we just understand each other’s vision.

When the pandemic hit, Abigail was forced to take a break from filming (she’s an actress, if you aren’t familiar with her work) and started County Line Florals, because she loved bringing people joy, people desperately needed joy - especially in those early days - and flowers always bring people joy! Needless to say, I was unsurprised to find out that she carried her talent for curation and visual beauty into the world of flowers, and I knew I needed to be involved somehow, but our schedules are both crazy, and finding time to align them has always been a bit of a challenge. Cut to a text one day that she was planning a shoot on a day I actually had off, and so I came over and we created magic and have been creating more magic with flowers ever since! Please enjoy the photos from our first floral shoot together, which we may or may not sell as prints in the near future, because everyone has been asking. Stay tuned to the shop for that, if I can figure out how to make it happen amidst all the other things I have going on. Until then, scrolling will have to do.
